YOUTHS FROM HATBORO’s YMCA TOUR MUSEUM
A group of eager baseball fans took a tour of the Society’s Museum on Thursday July 21st and were delighted with the artifacts on display. When asked what in their opinion was the greatest team of all time the one youngster shouted out “THE 2004 Boston Red Sox”. He was not dismayed when he learned that the 1929 Philadelphia Athletics are today still considered the best of all time.
Educating the local youngsters in baseball’s early history has become a goal for the A’s Society. On a day when the temperature hit 100 degrees the Society provided free COLD soda pop, & COLD bottled water, with pretzels, a pack of baseball cards and color photos of Bobby Shantz and the 1929 A’s. All were a big hit with the YMCA group. After accepting a few gifts from the volunteers the group decided to head back to the YMCA’s headquarters and trade baseball cards. Thanks to their group leader “Kyle” for bringing in this young group of future fans of the Philadelphia Athletics and baseball when it was a game.
