“SOUTH CAROLINA HONORS LOU BRISSIE”

Lou Brissie has been honored at three recent events in his native state of South Carolina.

On Saturday May 8th, 2010 Lou received an honorary Doctorate Of Public Service degree from his alma mater Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Lou played college baseball at Presbyterian under head coach Chick Galloway a former Philadelphia A’s shortstop in the 1920’s.

On Sunday May 30th in Ware Shoals, SC Lou was the keynote speaker at a Memorial Day service dedicating a new veterans memorial near the town square. There is a special engraving on the memorial dedicated to Lou for his courageous service in WWII. Ware Shoals is the town where Lou attended high school and played baseball in the textile league when he was discovered by Connie Mack. After the war Lou started his pro career in Savannah Georgia with an outstanding year and quickly joined the A’s in late 1947 and then his rookie year of ’48.

 

On Saturday June 12th Lou was honored at the Columbia Blowfish baseball game in Columbia, SC. The Blowfish is a team in the Coastal Plain League. Celebrating at the stadium the Army’s 235th birthday were also several thousand soldiers from nearby Ft. Jackson. In additon to Lou being honored, two South Carolina medal of honor winners were also given tribute.
