SOL CARTER DEAD AT 98

by Max Silberman

Sol Carter, the last surviving member of the 1931 Athletics, departed this life on December 23, 2006 on his 98th birthday.

He lived in Arkansas. In addition to his brief two game appearance with the A’s in their last American League championship season, Mr.Carter also later pitched in the 1930s at Reading, Memphis and Lexington

With his passing goes the last link to the A’s 1929-1931 dynasty. The A’s Society is grateful to the website “Who’s Living and Who’s Dead” which lists the oldest former major leaguers and their present status. We are also grateful to our members and website readers who inform us of these sad events.

There are now 66 surviving A’s players. Condolences are extended to the Carter family.
