SCOTT IRWIN PASSES AWAY
by Max Silberman
Philadelphia baseball fans old enough to remember the late 1940s will recall Scotty Irwin, a local boy who served as batboy for both the Phillies and the A’s.
On June 17th, Scotty Irwin passed away at the age of 73. In addition to his batboy duties, he also played professional baseball himself in the early 1950s. He was a graduate of Frankford High School and also attended Drexel University.
On several occasions, Scotty visited the A’s museum in Hatboro (where part of his family resides) and had many fascinating tales to tell of his baseball experiences
He was a founder of the Upper Moreland Basketball Association and was a baseball coach for two decades.
It was a great pleasure to have met Scotty Irwin and the members of the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society extend their deepest condolences to his wife Elizabeth, his children and grandchildren.
