“MOE BURTSCHY PASSES AWAY AT 82”

Edward F. Burtschy was better known to A’s fans as “Moe” and was part of the l954 team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Burtschy was a guest at a previous reunion, coming in from Cincinnati with his daughter to spend a weekend with fans and team-mates.

He was born in Cincinnati in April of l922 and passed away in early May 2004 of congestive heart failure.

His major league career began with the Philadelphia Athletics in l950. “Moe” also pitched for the A’s in l95l and l954 and for the Kansas City Athletics in l955 and l956. He appeared in 90 major league games with a record of 10-6.

He was originally signed by his hometown Reds in l94l and spent several years in the minor leagues working his way to the majors.

His death leaves only 81 surviving players of the Philadelphia Athletics. The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society extends its deepest condolences to the Burtschy family.
