Mickey Vernon’s 90th Birthday Celebration
The party was held Saturday, April 19 at the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum in Media, PA (www.paveteransmuseum.org) to a packed house of Vernon fans that included Phillies favorite Harry Kalas who told the story of how he became a huge Vernon fan in Chicago in 1946 when as an 8 year old boy Vernon lifted him from his seat in the grandstands and took him personally into the Senators dugout. Quite a thrill for a youngster during Vernon AL Batting championship year. The event was jointly sponsored by the Veterans Museum and the Delaware County Sports Hall of Fame.
To commemorate Vernon’s 90th birthday anniversary, the Veterans Museum in conjunction with the DELCO Sports Hall of Fame designed this limited edition card honoring Vernon not only for his fabulous major league career but his service to his country in WWll. Free copies of this card are being distributed by the A’s Society with each purchase of the Mickey Vernon Hartland Figurine.
