“LOU BRISSIE FIELD” TO BE DEDICATED AT VETERANS’ DAY CEREMONY IN WARE SHOALS, SOUTH CAROLINA
Ware Shoals School District 51 and the Town of Ware Shoals will come together on Monday, November 11th in a special ceremony to honor all veterans and to bestow a special honor on Leland Victor “Lou” Brissie, a hometown hero from “The Greatest Generation.” The baseball field at Riegel Stadium, on the campus of Ware Shoals High School, where the former Major League All-Star pitcher began his career with the Ware Shoals Riegels in the textile leagues, will be named “Lou Brissie Field.” Lou Brissie overcame grievous injuries sustained in World War II to become a Major League Baseball star. Following his Major League career, he became national director of the American Legion baseball program.
The ceremony is slated to begin at 11:00 AM (when the nation’s bells rang to celebrate Armistice Day) in the covered grandstands of Riegel Stadium. Please come out to show your appreciation to veterans everywhere and to honor a man who has distinguished himself as a patriot, an athlete, and as a humanitarian.
