A'S FAMILY GROWS SMALLER
by Max Silberman
The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society constantly monitors
various websites to keep our list of living Athletics players current.
During a recent search, we were saddened to learn that two more
former A's were gone.Tom Clyde departed this life at the age of
82 in October of 2005. He spent one year in the major leagues in
1943. He was a pitcher in 4 games with a record of 0-0.
Ray Poole passed away in March of 2006. He was 86 years old. He
spent two years in the majors, both with the Philadelphia Athletics.
In 1941 he pinch hit twice and in 1947 pinch hit 13 times.
While Tom Clyde and Ray Poole may not have been the most recognized
players to wear an A's uniform, they were part of our extended family
and we mourn their loss. Our alumni club of former A's is down to
75 players. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Clyde and Poole
families.
