BILL LILLARD DEAD AT 91

by Max Silberman

In 1939, baseball celebrated 100 years and joining the celebration was Bill Lillard who made his debut with the A's playing 2nd base and shortstop. He played 80 games with the Mackmen before injuries returned him to the minor leagues.

Rusty Seitz informed us of Lillard's June 8, 2009 passing. He played for the A's in his two major league seasons, 1939 and 1940.

Each of our death notices is checked with "Baseball Almanac" to confirm its accuracy.

Condolences are extended to the Lillard fanily. 49 Athletics players survive.
