PASSES AWAY AT 82"
by Max Silberman
Edward F. Burtschy was better known to A's fans as "Moe"
and was part of the l954 team to be honored in October. Mr. Burtschy
was a guest at a previous reunion, coming in from Cincinnati with
his daughter to spend a weekend with fans and team-mates.
He was born in Cincinnati in April of l922 and passed away in early
May 2004 of congestive heart failure.
His major league career began with the Philadelphia Athletics in
l950. "Moe" also pitched for the A's in l95l and l954
and for the Kansas City Athletics in l955 and l956. He appeared
in 90 major league games with a record of 10-6.
He was originally signed by his hometown Reds in l94l and spent
several years in the minor leagues working his way to the majors.
His death leaves only 81 surviving players of the Philadelphia Athletics.
The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society extends its deepest
condolences to the Burtschy family.
