RUSS DERRY PASSES ON

by Max Silberman

The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society was saddened to learn of the death of Alva Russell Derry last fall at the age of 87. While Russ Derry was with the A's in1946 for a one season stint as an outfielder, his brief stay made him a member of our family and his passing is mourned. Russ Derry was also an outfielder with the New York Yankees in 1944 and 1945. In 1949, he pinch hit in two games for the St. Louis Cardinals. His death leaves 78 surviving Philadelphia Athletics. The Society extends its deepest condolences to the Derry family.
