JIM CASTIGLIA DEAD AT 89

by Max Silberman

The A's Alumni Club grew smaller on December 26 with the passing of Jim Castiglia who played for both the Philadelphia Athletics and the Philadelphia Eagles.

After playing college ball at Georgetown, he caught for the 1942 A's batting .389 in 16 games. His career in professional football began in 1945-46 with the Eagles, 1947 with the Baltimore Colts (AAFC) and 1947-48 with the Washington Redskins. He was a back in those days which was a term used for offensive and defensive play at a time when players did both tasks.

His passing leaves 61 surviving former Athletics. The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society mourns his loss and extends condolences to his fanily.
