| Two former Philadelphia Athletics players, Joe Astroth and Forrest "Spook" Jacobs had the honor of throwing out the first pitch on Tuesday, June 18th at Veterans Stadium.
This game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox commemorated the first time the White Sox have played in Philadelphia since playing the Philadelphia Athletics at Connie Mack Stadium in 1954. Joe Astroth (catcher) and "Spook" Jacobs (second base) were both members of the 1954 team which was won by the White Sox 5-2 on August 28, 1954. The White Sox picked up where they left off nearly 48 years ago by defeating the Phillies 6-3 in 12 innings on their 2002 return to Philadelphia.
