BOBBY
SHANTZ FIELD
by Max Silberman
During his baseball years, beginning in 1949 with the Philadephia
Athletics and ending in 1964 with the Philadelphia Phillies, few
players have been so well loved as Bobby Shantz. He is always fan
friendly and a perfect gentleman.
In his home town of Pottstown, a project is underway to honor the
1952 American League MVP by naming the exisitng varsity baseball
field at Pottstown High School "Bobby Shantz Field", a
most fitting tribute to the greatest fielding pitcher of all time.
As most of us are aware, the school boards have limited financial
resources and outside contributions are needed to make this dream
come true. The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society supports
this project and encourages Bobby's fan to help out. If you wish
to make a cash donation, send it to "Bobby Shantz Field"
c/o Harleysville National Bank, PO Box 1137, Pottstown, PA 19464.
The cost of a brick is $75 for a business and $50 for personal bricks.
You may have up to 15 characters on each brick. All donations are
tax deductible.
If you have questions, please call Tom Coyle at (610) 970-5453.
