1926 Philadelphia Bobbies

Here is Edith Houghton at her home in Sarasota, Florida. A recent Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper article about Miss Houghton caught the attention of A's Society player rep John Addison who contacted Miss Houghton. She sent John some photos from her playing days with the 1926 Philadelphia Bobbies. She was also the first female scout hired by major league baseball by former Phillies owner, Bob Carpenter.

"She is a remarkable woman who has lived a remarkable life," says Diane. "I can't believe how well she gets around for a woman of 90. She still drives her car, she walks her dog "Cookie" every day and maintains a beautiful home."

We hope to have some stories about the women of professional baseball on our website soon. Keep checking in with us!
